I think it only apt that my first task as your new President is to thank Jan van Rooyen for his sterling work over the past four years especially for the wonderful relationship he has cultivated with our principal sponsor Royal Canin.
Jan it has been a pleasure serving under you as your Vice President. We had some wonderful times, WODAC for example, which was held in Cape Town for the first time. We were also asked to help a club continue to function ...
Another special word must go to Clare Coutinho, who has served as the secretary for quite a few terms. I noticed a very broad smile on Clare 's face when the AGM was brought to a close, and with it her term of office. Clare, from all your friends and colleagues on council, a very big thank you for all your hard work and we hope to see you back sooner rather than later.
When members move on, we need to elect replacements. It is my great pleasure to welcome Ian Moore as the Vice President, and Hazel King as the new Secretary. A warm welcome to you both and I hope that you have a very rewarding and interesting term of office. While Jan has stepped down as President, he is still with us in his new portfolio of Treasurer.
We all have lots to look forward to in the New Year - please don 't let the economists get you down. Sometimes it does feel like we are looking at the old picture of a man wearing sack cloth with a sign "the end of the world is nigh". But let 's use the new show season to cheer ourselves up, and get out see all the new exhibits and meet the new owners. Early in the new show season we will have the National kitten show, followed by a National show in Cape Town, and later COTY in Kimberley. Hopefully many of you will be travelling to Kimberley to Cat of the Year, and supporting the Northern Cape Free State region. This will be a trip I am keen to undertake, as well as an adventure, as I have never travelled to this part of the country before.
