History of TCS
Transvaal Cat Society (TCS) was formed 71 years ago in 1948, and is thus the oldest cat club in South Africa. Originally formed as the Siamese Cat Society and dedicated mostly to Siamese breeders and exhibitors, the name was later changed to Transvaal Cat Society as more and more breeds became popular.
Our very first show was held on a tennis court in someone's garden - and people sat with their cats on their laps whilst the judges performed their duties! Last year we celebrated our 70th anniversary with a glamourous championship show at the Randpark Golf Course - so we have come quite a long way.
In 2018 we held our championship show at the Goldfields Show Grounds in Bedfordview in conjunction with two dog clubs - and the grand finale judge-off between the Cat of the Day & the Dog of the Day was a first in South Africa.
We hold two championship shows every year under the auspices of SACC and welcome new members. One of our committee members is always on hand to introduce members of the public to the various breeds, explain the judging process, navigate around the show hall, and generally lead you into the wonderful world of cats.
