Provincial Cat Society
The Provincial Cat Society (PCS) is the club for Cat Fanciers who live in KwaZulu Natal.
PCS’s primary objective is to promote the welfare of all cats. To achieve this, three shows are held each year where owners and breeders can meet in an environment of mutual interests and respect. The public are welcomed at these shows and breeders enjoy the opportunity to inform people about their breed.
Breeders are encouraged to promote showing to their kitten buyers. PCS and the breeders mentor these new exhibitors. Club members are available to assist fellow and new breeders.
The club also concerns itself with the plight of less privileged cats, and in the past three years, PCS has donated over R8000.00 to Cat Rescue organisations.
Provincial Cat Society History
The original Persian Cat Society Breed Group was founded in KZN many years ago by Persian Breeders Tanya Banks, the Framptons, Kaai du Plessis, Dirk Taljard, Joy Tyrrell, the Larkins and Ngaio Crawley. The group ran non-championship shows and exhibitions before finally presenting a Championship Show under the auspices of the Natal Cat Club.
As the group grew it was decided to apply for club status incorporating all breeds of cats. The Persian Cat Society’s application was approved and it now had representation on the Governing Council of Associated Cat Clubs of South Africa (the precursor to SACC).
As a cat club the Persian Cat Society ran very successful and friendly shows and continued to grow becoming the only SACC Cat Club in KZN. The name was later changed to the Provincial Cat Society. The club presented its first COTY at the Westville Hotel, followed in 2009 by a Bollywood themed COTY and in 2016 by a Bohemian themed Coty.
PCS’s primary objective is to promote the welfare of all cats. To achieve this, one 4 Ring show and the popular Back2Back shows (2x 4 Ring Shows held over a weekend) are held each year where owners and breeders can meet in an environment of mutual interests and respect. The public is welcomed at these shows and breeders enjoy the opportunity to inform people about their breed.
Breeders are encouraged to promote showing to their kitten buyers. PCS and the breeders mentor these new exhibitors and Club members are available to assist fellow and new breeders.
The club also concerns itself with the plight of less privileged cats, and in the past years, PCS has donated over R10,000.00 to Cat Rescue organisations.
